Christmas Cocktails Your Guests will Love

Dec 15, 2020 | Entertainment, Occasions

We’d be lying if we said festive cocktails aren’t top of mind all season long. Christmas is known for classic movies, sweet treats and fun gift swaps, but it’s also one of the best drinking holidays. Next to Thanksgiving at Pete’s and July Fourth on First Street, boozy Christmas cocktails are a local favorite in St. Augustine and Jacksonville. Here are a few of our favorite drinks to keep you nice and warm this winter.

Spiced Cranberry Sangria

Talk about a crowd-pleaser! This rendition of a classic red sangria adds a seasonal twist you’re sure to love. This cocktail can be served with extra liquor in a shot glass or tamed down for a full-size cocktail.

If you prefer a shooter, combine chilled vodka and cranberry juice into a tall shot glass rimmed with sugar. Cheers with your family and friends to the start of a night to remember (or forget!)

Elevate your cocktail game and pull out the fancy Champagne flutes or coupe glasses. Combine three-parts Prosecco, one-part cranberry juice and a splash of fresh-squeezed lime juice. Garnish with a lime pinwheel, sugared cranberries and a sprig of rosemary.

Spiked Hot Apple Cider

Boozy apple cider pairs best with a nice fire or a good book. Mix up this long-time favorite to guarantee a cozy evening full of laughs. To a half-full mug of hot cider, add one ounce of butterscotch Schnapps, a fresh squeeze of lemon and a shot of spiced rum. Mix, then rim your mug with caramel and brown sugar cinnamon. Garnish with a Honeycrisp apple slice.

This one is one the sweeter side. If you prefer something a little more mellow, consider an apple cider shandy instead. Simply combine a six-pack of your favorite lager with a bottle of sparkling apple cider. Serve chilled.

Adults Only Hot Chocolate

Who knew hot chocolate could get any better? Bring six cups of coconut milk (or your milk of choice) to a simmer, and gently stir in ½ a cup of cocoa powder, ¼ teaspoon ground cardamom and a cup of Bailey’s. If you want it a little stronger, simply add some vanilla vodka.

For another fun approach to a classic cup of hot cocoa, add 2 oz of butterscotch Schnapps and ½ an ounce of amaretto to each glass. Top with whipped cream, marshmallows and chocolate syrup to really show your friends how it’s done.
